Tom spent his life rooted in Northeast Ohio and remained a proud lifelong resident of Bedford – the community he loved and faithfully served. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to Roberta M. Gurko (nee Safko). Together the built a life grounded in Loyalty, humor, and unwavering dedication to family. Tom was the proud father of Thomas Martin Gurko III, Timothy George Gurko and his wife Natalie (Migoni), and Anne-Marie Gurko Balcer and her husband Billy Balcer. His greatest joy in recent years was being “Grandpa” to his beloved grandsons, Lincoln and Atticus Gurko, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He is also survived by his siblings, Gregory Gurko and Evangeline Gurko Makar, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Tom dedicated more than 30 years of service to the City of Bedford before retiring. Outside of work, Tom enjoyed the simple things that brought him pride and peace. He loved motorcycles and Cadillacs and was a devoted follower of Cleveland sports and wrestling. He also found genuine satisfaction in yard work – keeping his home and lawn meticulously cared for. It was more than a hobby, it was part of who he was. Those who knew Tom knew his sharp wit and unmistakable sarcasm – usually delivered with a grin. He was a natural storyteller, able to turn everyday moments into stories worth repeating. Many knew him simply as “Tommy” and he leaves behind more friends than most of us even realized. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His love for family ran deep, and his greatest fulfillment came watching them grow.
