PAUL R. MARKE, JR., age 90, of Northfield, passed away peacefully September 24, 2025 surrounded by family. Beloved husband of 69 years to Juliana (nee Schneider); loving father to Kim Lonsdale (Mike), Greg (Amy), Cheryl Bush (Ed), and Lynn Gonzalez (Marcelo); cherished grandfather of Jane, the late Mary, Gregory (Rachel), Emily (Bernard), Johnny (Sierra), Helena (Pietro), Lilly (Ben), Bella, Vivienne, and Marcelo; dear brother of the late George, Joan Gwizdala (Tim), Jim (Venita), Marilyn Callow, Lore Merrill, Charles (Chris), and Fran Calahan (Charles); dearest uncle, great uncle, and friend. Paul was born in Chicago, Illinois to Paul Robert Marke, Sr. and Louise Marie Mammoser. He was the first of 7 more to follow. Paul’s dad moved the family from St. Michael’s Court in Old Town Chicago to the developing Wonder Lake community. Whenever this bunch took to the road in the VW bus throughout McHenry County there was laughter, song, and no doubt some German rüge from the driver seat! Paul graduated from Purdue University in June,1956, marrying the love of his life, Juliana Schneider, and started their new life together in Cleveland, Ohio in his first position with Eaton Corporation. They welcomed daughter Kim in 1957 and son Greg followed soon after in 1958. A move to Kalamazoo, Michigan brought new adventures, including the birth of daughter Cheryl in 1963. Full circle – a return to Cleveland to begin working for the Horsburgh & Scott Company in 1964, and the arrival of baby-of-the-family, Lynn, in 1970. The greatest joy of Paul and Juli was passing along family traditions, nostalgia, and their faith to their children and all who were welcomed into their home…and there were so many! Paul’s altruism shone at Gesu Church where he and Juli counted offertory collections for 20+ years, served on the parish finance committee, taught twelfth graders Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, formed a men’s softball team (aptly named the Marke Marauders), and proceeded to serve again another 25 years as an adoration chapel volunteer and offertory counter with their move to St. Barnabas in Northfield, Ohio. Paul maintained throughout life his spirituality, but also his mental & physical talents through swimming, softball, racquetball, running, and workouts. With a true servant's heart, one of his most beloved roles was that of grandfather (a.k.a. Pokey, Grandpa, Grampy), which encompassed decades of reading, rocking, engaging in make-believe, feeding, chauffeuring, and cheering-on his grandchildren, who have been some of his greatest fans. Paul’s sister, Joan, spoke for many after his passing by writing that Paul was welcomed with open arms, with a big smile on his face as he saw many family and friends, with a German fest ready - he was set to begin. We’ll all really miss him, along with his laughs and corny jokes. We know he is in a good place. Friends may call at THE FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME, 356 WEST AURORA ROAD (OH RT 82), SAGAMORE HILLS FOR MEMORIAL VISITATION ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2025 FROM 10:30-11:30 AM. Funeral 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Paul’s life at 12 Noon at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.
