MARGARET MARY FOSCHIA (nee BACKLAY), 87, of Northfield, passed away April 7, 2026. Beloved wife of 44 years to Neal; loving mom to Anthony (Susan), Michael (Daniel Herbst), and Maria; cherished grandma to Allison Schupp (Anthony), Nicholas, Amanda Michelle Foschia (Kim Picazo), Christina, and Michael (Kenna); great grandma to Selene, Sampson, Daisy, and Michael; dearest daughter of the late Stanley and Catherine Backlay (nee Kontur); dear sister of the late Dolores Barnes.
Margaret was a graduate of Bedford High School and longtime member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church. She was most passionate about spending time with family, and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known as “Grandma Purple”, she was always current with popular culture and music, enjoyed dining and travel, watched nearly all sports, and was joyful in the company of her labrador retrievers. She claims to be the original and longest viewer of the daytime drama, General Hospital, which first aired in 1963; this claim has yet to be disputed.
In her memory and for her love for the color purple, those attending services are asked to wear purple if you are able. Friends may call at the FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME, 356 W. AURORA RD. (ST. RT. 82) SAGAMORE HILLS FOR VISITATION FRIDAY FROM 4-7PM. Funeral 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial to Celebrate Margaret’s life 10:00 a.m. St. Barnabas Catholic Church.
