Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Bascombe

Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Bascombe, age 77, of Macedonia, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. Born on November 24, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Harold and Celeste. He was raised in Bedford Heights, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family.

Jerry dedicated 36 years of his life to serving his community as a police officer, a role to which he was deeply committed. Jerry was a devoted husband to Shirley Bascombe. He was a loving and supportive father to three children, Wendy, Michael, and Michelle. He always offered guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love to his children. In his most recent years, Jerry got so much happiness from being with his grandchildren. He loved every minute spent with them—playing, laughing, and just hanging out. You could always tell how much joy they brought him; his face lit up the brightest whenever they were around. His grandchildren meant the world to him and gave him the strength to keep going, especially during the tough times that he faced.

In addition to his dedication to family and service, Jerry had many passions. He was an avid drag racing enthusiast. For many years he loved drag racing, owning and racing multiple cars. Once retired from racing, he loved tinkering with cars and fixing them with his son Michael. He also never missed a NASCAR race on TV and was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and Guardians.

Jerry leaves behind his cherished wife, Shirley Bascombe; his children, Wendy Bascombe, Michael Bascombe (Alicia), and Michelle Mendez (Andrew); his grandchildren Bryce and Avery; His sister Donna Sanfilippo (Jack); nieces and nephews Amy Steadman (Jay), Jenny Dusenbury (Kevin), and Jack Sanfilippo (Brittany); and great uncle to Aubrey, Alyse, Camden, Caelan and Duke. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Celeste Bascombe. Family and friends are asked to gather at NORTHFIELD BAPTIST CHURCH, 311 W AURORA ROAD, NORTHFIELD, OHIO 44067 FOR VISITATION ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2026, FROM 6-7:30 PM.
