Obituary

Dolores (“Dolly” or “Dee”) Patricia Hovan went home to her Heavenly Father on August 30, 2023 after 90 blessed years of life. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 21, 1933 to the late Charles Sutton and Margaret Smith. She married the late Michael Hovan, who was the chief firefighter of Cleveland, Ohio. They she spent most of their lives residing with their dog Heidi in Bedford, Ohio. She has spent the past 6 years at The Reserve at Brentwood assisted living, where she fostered very special relationships with all the nurses, staff, and friends who loved and cared for her until her last days. Anyone who knew Dolly frequently witnessed her strong devotion to God and her Catholic faith, which was reflected in her joyous spirit and infectious smile. She was eternally generous in her prayers and was happy to offer them to everybody. She adored Mother Mary, as her favorite form of prayer had always been the Holy Rosary. Dolly also had a strong passion for music, and proudly played her Technics Organ for years with her best friend Mary Carotta. This organ, while very large, was her prized possession and even traveled with her to the assisted living facility. All who knew Dolly also knew how much she loved food. She enjoyed watching the daily news, Lawrence Welk and many classics, while eating her favorite snacks such as butter pecan ice cream, pecan rolls, jelly donuts, cherries, chocolate bars, plus her pizza, spaghetti with meatball with extra sauce and corn-on-the-cob. Dolores was also preceded in death by her dearest brothers, Robert Sutton (Yvonne), Charles Sutton (Betty), and Clarence Sutton (Kathy), and nephew Robert G. Sutton. She is survived by her nieces, Cindy, Debe, Denise, Tammy, Tonya and Veronica, her nephews, Rick, Chucky, Danny, Tommy and their spouses and children, her cousin Theresa Finch, sister-in-law Trudi Sutton, step-niece Sharon(Bob),  step-sister-in-law Pearl,  her great-nephews Vince (Kenzie), Max, Matthew, and Luke, her great-niece Brandi (Chris), and her great-great nieces Evelyn and Daisy. Dolores will be remembered for her unwavering faith to Christ and to her family and friends. In a letter she hand-wrote, she has asked that everyone remember her in their prayers after the Lord calls her home. And in lieu of flowers, Dolly has requested Prayer Cards for Masses.
