David E. Shimp

DAVID E. SHIMP, age 79 of Brecksville, Ohio, passed away on August 29, 2025.  Dave was born on September 27, 1945, in Woodstown, New Jersey to the late John and Elizabeth (nee Zane) Shimp. Beloved husband of 38 years to Kathryn Kortan, loving father to David Shimp, Jr. (Laura), Michael Shimp (Tina), Mary Fox (Bill), Mary Sittnick (Angel), and Stephen Sittnick (Nancy); adoring Grandpa/Papa/Peepaw to 12 grandchildren: Julie, April, Tyler, Ethan, Kasidee, Kanon, Maggie, Trevor, Zack, Gavin, Stephen and Ryan and 2 great-grandchildren; brother to Jane Sparks (Richard), Richard Shimp (June), and the late John P. Shimp. Dave started working for DuPont at age 19 after high school and continued working there for 42 years until his retirement in 2006. He traveled frequently for DuPont to Europe, South America and Turkey, and moved his family briefly to Puerto Rico for work during his early career. Dave was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed taking bass fishing trips with son David Jr. in Toledo Bend Lake, Texas, Guntersville Lake, Alabama and Kentucky Lake, Tennessee. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including many fishing outings with grandsons Stephen and Ryan to Lake Erie and Portage Lakes. He loved birds and maintained many backyard bird feeders. At one time he also owned a sailboat which he would sail on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
