David Morehouse Obituary

DAVID ALAN MOREHOUSE, age 72, passed away Thursday evening, September 4, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family, with the support of his neighbors, colleagues, and community, after a short, but very aggressive battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dave, or Chief to some, was born November 16, 1952 in Medina, Ohio. He was the firstborn of four, to parents Thomas and Barbara (nee Brock) Morehouse. He grew up and spent most of his life in Peninsula, Ohio. He graduated from Woodridge High School, Class of 1971 as a football standout, following on to Owens Technical College where he majored in Agriculture. Dave was a dedicated family man to his seven children, and faithful husband to his wife Constance of 48 years. Besides adopting five of his seven children, Dave and Connie were foster parents to many others over the years.

Dave worked for various trucking companies throughout his life, starting with Morgan Trucking, Topps, and finally with Blackhorse. He also worked for the Street Department in the Village of Peninsula and was currently employed with the Boston Heights Street Department at the time of his passing. While trucking was certainly one of the loves of his life, his first calling was that of a firefighter. Dave started on the Peninsula Fire Department in 1972 before it became Valley Fire Department, later becoming assistant fire chief of over 35 years before retiring in 2019 after 47 years of service. He was awarded Summit County Firefighter of the Year on September 4, 2000, honoring his tireless professionalism, dedication, and service.

Dave was known throughout the community as a wonderful friend, helpful neighbor, impeccable family man, hard-working colleague, and sports lover (Woodridge football, the Buckeyes, and an ever-suffering Browns fan). He was always willing to help others by loaning a tool out, offer advice or instruction, offer financial help, if need be, offer a helping hand with various household projects, and even bust balls in jest if he liked your company. His infectious laugh, smile, and spirit will be missed by all who knew him or in whose life he touched. Dave was the most decent person we know, May he rest in peace.

Preceding Dave in passing were his parents. He is survived by his wife Connie, and his seven children, David Morehouse (Lisa), Jackie Donat, John Donat, Marie Raber (Brian), Michael Morehouse, Nicole Morehouse, and Stephanie Douglas (Edwin). He is also survived by his three siblings, Cathy Hellming (Ben), Rob Morehouse (Michaele), and Thomas Morehouse (Patti). He leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family, his pseudo-adopted son (depending on who won the annual Michigan-Buckeye game) James Kennedy, and his faithful canine companion, Otto. Besides family, Dave leaves behind many wonderful neighbors, friends, and colleagues whose lives he touched in countless ways.

The family asks that in Dave’s honor please take some time to do something special with the loved ones around you. Be it watch a football game, enjoy some cheesy dad jokes, bust some balls in jest, have a good laugh watching the rat race of the world go by, or share a good meal. Dave will rest well knowing his memory made the world a better place in some way. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Cleveland Clinic Hospice team for their dignified, respectful, and heartfelt care they provided Dave and his family during his remaining days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to 5287 Dogwood Dr, Peninsula OH 44264, to support either Valley Fire Department, or the Summit County Retired Firefighters Association.
