Basil Lovano Obituary

Basil Thomas Lovano, born on May 7, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old. A resident of Northfield Center Township since 1958, Basil was a dedicated and active member of his community. A devout parishioner of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, he served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister and participated in Eucharistic Adoration. He was a founding member of the North Hills Water District Board of Trustees, serving for over 50 years, and contributed more than three decades to the Northfield Center Zoning Commission. Basil also represented the township for many years with the Western Reserve Cable 9 Consortium. Basil began his professional career with Ohio Bell, now AT&T, where he worked for 40 years and retired in 1993 as a District Manager. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from John Carroll University in 1966. Proudly serving his country, Basil was a U.S. Army veteran who held the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1955. Beyond his service and career, Basil was an avid golfer and longtime member of a golf league. He loved to travel, especially with his beloved wife, Eileen, to Hawaii and Florida, and enjoyed family vacations to North Carolina. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—celebrating family milestones and treasured holiday traditions. Basil was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (née Bendlock); loving father of Denise McBurney, Robert (Jennifer), and Lisa Jenkins (Randy); cherished Papa of David (Erin), Andrew (Michaela), Michael (Holly), Matthew McBurney (Becca), Kyle (Maria), Connor (Haley), and Karlee Jenkins; and proud Great Papa of Cece, Theo, Izzy, Dean, Vincent, and Lainey. He was the dear brother of Carmela Artl (late Larry), Josephine Smalley (Dan), Tom, and the late Mary, Sam, and Jessie (Sandy); brother-in-law of Kathy (Bendlock) Lovano; and a beloved uncle to many. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Basil’s name be made to InMotion, 23905 Mercantile Road, Beachwood, OH 44122.
