SUSAN ANNE CHUTE (nee Chute), 70, of Sagamore Hills, passed away November 1, 2026. Beloved partner of 32 years to Kathleen E. Hocevar; Dearest daughter to the late Dr. William J. Chute, PhD and the late Virginia Olney (nee Remington); Sister to Elizabeth “Libby” E. Chute, PhD, and Robert C. Chute; Cherished aunt, great aunt, and friend to many including her canine companion, Molly.
Susan was born and raised in New York City. Higher education was important in her family and Susan certainly achieved a great deal. She attended the University of Akron receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in educational administration and school psychology. Susan also attended Florida Institute of Technology, receiving training in applied behavioral analysis.
She was School Psychologist for the Columbian County Board of Education from August 1984 to July 1986; was Director of Pupil Services and School Psychologist for the Nordonia Hill City Schools from 1986-2005 and was Director of Student Services for the Revere Local Schools from August 2005 until her retirement in July 2012.
Susan was highly regarded in her profession. She was a fierce defender of children and strived to see that all students received the education and intervention they needed. She worked with families in the most difficult situations with respect and extraordinary knowledge and problem-solving. Susan was not just an administrator. She went with classes on field trips, and supported students at picnics, sporting events, and plays even after retirement!
Susan did not know a stranger. She was a friend to so many people. She remembered everything about them. Some even received birthday serenades from her and Kathleen. She always had a treasured little dog. Susan played the clarinet in school and a community band in Florida and Ohio. She honored our veterans. Even when she began to fail in her language, she would go up to a veteran and thank them for their service. She loved nature and walks. She loved pets, friends, and family. Knowing Susan for a little over 45 years, I have never seen her happier than sharing her life with Kathleen. Kathleen has been her angel in these past years and until just recently Susan knew that and I know appreciated all the love and support from Kathleen and all of her friends. We will cherish her legacy of kindness and giving to others.
