Obituary

MICHAEL J. PIETRO, 91, of Streetsboro, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2026, joining his beloved wife, Patricia.

He was born on April 16, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, the eldest son of the late Joseph and Helen Pietro.

A member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR), Mike proudly served his country from 1953 to 1961, achieving the rank of sergeant while specializing in aircraft maintenance. In 1951, along with family, he established Michael's Auto Parts in Macedonia, Ohio. He dedicated his life to "the shop," working six days a week until the age of 90.

Apart from his family, cars were Mike's greatest passion. He could identify the make and model of a car from half a mile away. He loved working on and restoring automobiles from an early age. A lifelong Chevy man, his favorites were his 1957 Chevys. Above all, Mike loved his family and spent his entire life caring for and providing for them. He cherished watching his grandchildren—and later his great-grandchildren—grow and took great pride in teaching them countless practical skills. Mike always made time for adventures with the kids and often helped with childcare, taking them to the shop for the day. He took pride in providing both his children and grandchildren with their first vehicle, this was important to him.

Mike also enjoyed collecting coins, stamp books, historical trading cards, and other treasures to pass down to his grandchildren. Over the years, he carefully saved keepsakes, announcements, drawings, and photographs, creating treasured scrapbooks for his children and grandchildren. Mike loved working with his hands, from building furniture for his and Patricia's first home to creating anything his grandchildren could dream up. Together, they spent countless hours in the barn crafting spaceships, sailboats, derby cars, and custom signs. He enjoyed working outdoors and continued mowing the lawn and operating the backhoe until the end of his life. The legacy Mike leaves behind is one of an unmatched work ethic, a willingness to help anyone in need, and an unwavering commitment to putting family first.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (née Palek); his brothers, Joseph Pietro and Paul Pietro; and his grandson, Brandon Smallwood. He is survived by his three children: Michael (Vicki) Pietro of Windham, Jane Pietro of Kent, and Amy Johnson (Rich Nichols) of Burton; his brother, Nicholas Pietro; his sister, Joanna Nease (Scott); four grandchildren, Michael Pietro, Eric Speck, Christopher Pietro, and Noel Johnson; ten great-grandchildren; his truly wonderful neighbors; and his faithful furry companion, Mocha.

Mike will be laid to rest during a private military service at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Michael Pietro on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Adam Hall, 11455 E. Washington Street, Auburn Township, Ohio 44023. If weather permits, please drive your hot rods and classic cars to the celebration—Mike would love it.
