Obituary

Joseph L. Markiewicz of Twinsburg, Ohio, was born on April 10, 1932, and peacefully passed away on May 28, 2024, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene, eight older brothers, and three of his sisters. Born and raised in Webster, Massachusetts, Joe spent most of his youth playing sports, excelling on the basketball court and baseball diamond. He was a veteran of the US Air Force A/IC Korean War 1952-57, 809th Operations Squadron. During his time in the service he met his wife of 67 years in Florida, and they moved to her hometown in Northeast Ohio to raise a family. Joe worked for White Motor Company and King Musical Instruments. He spent his time outside of the office coaching basketball and pitching horseshoes. He was a basketball referee for 25 years and a Solon City Schools board member for over a decade. As he got older he moved from horseshoes to golf and bowling. He was the Grantwood Senior Golf League leader for 12 years and bowled in a league at Pawnee Lanes in Bedford. One of his proudest moments was getting a hole-in-one at Brandywine Golf Course. He was a lifelong competitor and maintained an active lifestyle until the very end. He was a fan of all Cleveland sports teams and rarely missed a Cavs, Indians, or Browns game on television. He loved all music and often asked his family to listen to songs on his iPad. He embraced new technology more than most his age! He cherished every moment with his close family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe is survived by his three children, Joe (Kathy), Terry Blagdon (Doug), and Sue Glander (Doug) and 10 grandchildren, Matt Markiewicz (Amanda), Zach Markiewicz (Erica), Dan Markiewicz, Elizabeth Boyd (Daniel), Kelsey Mooney (Rob), Martha Hartsman (Andy), Emily Palumbo (Evan), Katelyn McCarthy (David), Joey Glander (Haley) and Ben Glander (Amy). He also leaves behind his treasured sister, Theresa Raiczyk, and his 19 cherished great-grandchildren. Joe was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends may call at THE FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOMES, 356 W.
