John Powers
May 8, 1957 - August 5, 2026
John Powers passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on May 8, 1957, to John and Patricia Powers — known to friends as Red and Pat — and carried their warmth and character with him his whole life.
John lived life the way he rode his Harley: full throttle, wind in his face, and always ready for the next stretch of road. But if you really wanted to find him on any given afternoon, odds are he was parked in a chair with a cold beer in hand, content to watch the traffic roll by or the waves roll in — it didn't much matter which. John was a man who could find the good life on a front porch or a beach, as long as the beer was cold and the view was moving.
He never met a cuisine he wouldn't try, an island he wouldn't visit, or surf he wouldn't jump into. But nothing — not the Harley, not the beach, not a plate of something delicious in a place far from home — lit John up quite like his grandsons, Riley and Graham. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines of a soccer game, building sandcastles at the beach, or just watching them dive into the waves, those boys were, without question or competition, the light of his life.
John is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Klonowski), her husband Jay, and their sons Riley and Graham; and his brother, Robert "Bob" Powers.
He will be remembered for his easy smile, his firm handshake, and his gift for making any ordinary afternoon feel like exactly where you were supposed to be.
John was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 38 for 30 years. He also served on the Bedford City Council Planning Commission from 2018-2026.
John E Powers final hurrah and last party will be November 14, 12 PM-4PM at Sirna's Cafe, 795 Broadway Ave, Bedford, OH 44146. Please come help us celebrate John and share all of your fond memories.
