Obituary

Together Again

GERALD EUGENE MILLER, 95, formerly of Sagamore Hills OH, passed away August 10, 2026. Born September 30, 1930, in Smithville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Daniel and Icie Miller.

Gerald attended high school in Smithville, OH and later studied chemistry at Bluffton College, where he played football, ran track, and sang as a tenor in the college choir and Gospel Quartet. His faith and love of music continued throughout his life.

As a young man, Gerald worked alongside his parents and brothers on the family farm in Wooster, Ohio, an experience that instilled in him a lifelong work ethic and dedication to family.

He worked as a chemist for Spencer Kellog and General Tire (Gencorp) where he became a highly respected laboratory manager. He took great pride in his work, helping to modernize the laboratory’s computer systems and improve operations.

Gerald was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as a Methodist Youth Fellowship leader, and led church work camps that brought people together to repair homes and serve others. He also served as leader of his son’s Cub Scout pack. Faith, family, and service were central to Gerald’s life.

He was the beloved husband of Lila (née Jackson) for 70 years and a loving father and grandfather. Gerald and Lila shared a deep and enduring love, expressed through singing duets written by Lila, cherishing family, and traveling abroad with friends from their church community. He was preceded in death by Lila; his parents; brothers Richard, Clifford, and Danny; and sister Carol.

Gerald is survived by his children, Gregory, Joel (Jingjing), and Kevin; and grandchildren Joseph, Ellen, Tracey, and Grace.

Family and friends are asked to gather Monday at the United Methodist Church of Macedonia, 1280 E. Aurora Rd., Macedonia, Ohio, for visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM followed by funeral services celebrating Gerald’s life. Interment Northfield Macedonia Cemetery.
