Obituary

GERALD E. CHAPPLE "JERRY", age 88, born March 22, 1938, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, after a short battle with lymphoma.

Friends may call at the FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME, 356 W. AURORA RD. (RTE. 82), SAGAMORE HILLS, SUNDAY, 2-6 PM, FOR VISITATION. Funeral, Monday, 10:00 am, at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, St. Monica Church, 13623 Rockside Rd, Garfield Heights. The family invites you back to Ferfolia's for a luncheon following mass. Entombment All Saints Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations in Jerry’s name to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, Catholic Charities USA or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jerry was born in Cleveland in 1938. He married his high school sweetheart Carol Lois Hrivnak (deceased) in 1957, joined the Army in 1960 through 1963, then settled in Maple Heights, Ohio to raise a family. Jerry and Carol had 3 children, Edward Joseph (deceased), Angela Jean and David Gerald.

Jerry then worked at Commercial Steel Treating for 44 years until his retirement in 2007, after which he spent his time traveling with his wife, Carol (deceased 2012). Jerry has been a long-time active member of the St. Monica Parish in Garfield Hts. He had served there as a Eucharistic Minister, Mass Coordinator and Usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He took great pleasure and received comfort from his church community. Jerry was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1812 for over 20 years during which time he served as the Treasurer and was honored with acting as the Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 2018.Jerry enjoyed the theater and was a Playhouse Square season ticket holder for many years. He also enjoyed going to the movies, concerts and sporting events with his family and getting together with friends at various events.

Jerry cherished his family, including his wife Carol (deceased), his children Edward (Linda) both deceased, Angie (partner John), and David (Kate), his adored grandchildren Jason (Kathryn), Nicholas (Carly), and Nathan (Serenity), and beloved great grandchildren Molly, Charlotte (Jason) and Nova AnnMarie (Nathan); his siblings Elaine (deceased), Dorothy, and Jim and his many nephews, nieces and cousins. He also treasured his connection with his high school friends with whom he met for lunch regularly, and particularly his special re-connection with Alberta “Boots” Synowski.
