Elmer Ronald
Burkholder
Jan 11, 1940 — Jun 11, 2025
ELMER RONALD "BURKEY" BURKHOLDER, age 85, of Sagamore Hills, passed away on June 11, 2025. Beloved father of Ronald Burkholder (Marisol), Dana Burkholder Collins (Keith), Amy Burkholder Knerem (Keary), and Eddie Burkholder (Brianna); loving grandfather of Marcus Collins, Emily Knerem, Katlyn Knerem, C.J. Knerem, Noelle Burkholder, and Kaylee Post; brother of Donna (deceased), Steve, and Anetta (deceased); son of Elmer W. and Frances Burkholder (both deceased); former husband of Rebecca (nee Maczko) and Marjorie (nee Hovorka).
Born and raised in the community of Star Junction, Pennsylvania, Elmer carried with him a deep pride in his coal mining heritage. That legacy of resilience and hard work shaped the man he became—unyielding in spirit and generous in heart.
To those who knew him, he was the friend who was always there. There was never a friend in need when he was around—his heart was simply too big to let anyone struggle alone. He could not be defeated, not by life's hardships nor by its challenges. He always did it "His way!"
Elmer built a life in Cleveland, Ohio, working at Cerro Copper and settling in the Collinwood neighborhood before moving to Sagamore Hills, where he made a home for his family. His career took him to Midwest Equipment, where he rose from crane operator to vice president—a testament to his dedication and leadership. Eventually, he fulfilled a dream by starting his own crane rental business, leaving a legacy of entrepreneurship and hard work.
Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and a passionate fisherman. Burkey also liked to go to and enjoyed the challenges of Northfield Park and the MGM Racino.
Elmer's life was a testament to loyalty, perseverance, and love for family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unforgettable memories.
