Dearest son to the late Clarence Sr. and the late Edna Mae (nee Schoene); Dear brother to the late Lois Frank and the late Clarence Jr.; Cherished uncle to Greg Gissinger (Melanie), Jeff Gissinger, Lisa Amentini (Mark), Greg (Tracy), Traci Takacs, the late Ron Helus, and the late Teri Oswald; Great uncle to many. Don was an accomplished athlete. He was a wrestling great in school and lettered in football and track, but wrestling was the sport in which he made his mark. At Geauga High School, he earned three letters and was the 1950 State Runner Up his junior year, and the 1951 State Champ his senior year. Don continued his wrestling career at Toledo University where he was the Mid-American Champion three times in three different weight classes. While at Kent State University, Don was a three-time MAC champ. A very impressive accomplishment was being named a US Olympic Wrestling Team alternate. While serving in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, Don was chosen to represent all three branches of the military in the International Military championships held in Istanbul, Turkey. Don has been in 33 wrestling tournaments and won 1st place in 17 of them. His lifetime record stands at an amazing 328 wins, 27 losses, and 6 ties. Don was a long-time coach and Physical Educational Teacher for Chagrin Falls High School. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame in 1987 and into the University of Toledo All Sports Division I Hall of Fame in 1991. Don in his tenure coached volleyball and football but his passion was wrestling and building into the lives of those he taught, coached and loved as family.
